POTD #313 Flopping Second Pair in a $200k vs Chris Brewer

A Monte Carlo Monday that is posting on Wednesday

In Monday’s POTD, POTD #312, I wrote about a hand that got me steamed up. I tried bluffing Ole Schemion, he called my river shove with a hand that should have folded the flop and the turn and the river, and he sent me to the registration desk to re-enter for $25,000. Fast forward four months later, and we are in Monte Carlo instead of London, and instead of registration being open in a $25k, we are approaching the money of a $200k. We get a similar, but not identical, situation to the one that got me very mad several months ago. Then, I could not believe that Ole would call me down so lightly, but today, I am the one making the loose and bad flop peel and I am the one winning a hand I am not supposed to win.

There are two lessons here. One: Any mistake you can’t believe your opponent would ever make is one you’re live to make at any given time. Two: Winning a pot is always a nice way to recover from making a blunder.

River (140k) 2♠️: I bet 14k, Chris calls and mucks.
