I am a man of my word, and in POTD #102, when I wrote about a T7 suited I played vs. Limitless, I promised that POTD #107 would also be about a 10-7 suited hand. T7 has a special place in my heart, because when my older brother began playing home games in our parent’s basement1, the “fun” hand was T7 offsuit and it was nicknamed “the goat” (and not the G.O.A.T) because someone lost a big pot with T7o and called the winner a “goat bastard”. I do remember one time when my brother Max made a straight with T7o and slowrolled a friend of his who got so mad he left and went to his parent’s basement. T7o is a hand one rarely VPIPs, but T7s gets in there quite a bit, apparently often enough that I had two separate hands saved on my desktop as T7s.png. In today’s hand, I’ll write about the second one.
Often in my introductions for online hands that took place during 2020 and 2021, I inevitably write about how much money I lost that day. This makes sense; the nature of tournament poker is that you’re going to lose a lot more than you win. However, just so readers of this blog don’t think I’ve never won, in today’s post we will celebrate a day where I had two pretty nice scores, cashing for over $220k in the GG 25k and over $100k in the WCOOP 10k PSKO. All in all, I played 40 tournaments and profited $181,495, but I had to pay out $115,232 in swaps for a personal profit of $66,263. It’s funny that the hand in my file of hands to look up later that was the most notable to me was not a hand from a $25k I three-bulleted and final tabled or from a PSKO final table, but from the early levels of a $2,625 Blade Opener, one of the smaller stakes tournaments I played and one of the first tournaments I registered that day.
9/5/2021 HH WSOP High Rollers: $2,625 Blade Opener
7H (200/400/50) (SB/BB/Ante) 10k Starting Stack
It folds to J. Silverstein (10,143) on the button who makes it 919, Andras Nemeth (7,400) folds in the SB, I (~20k) call in the BB with T♦️7♦️.
Flop (2,388) J♦️4♠️3♣️: I check, He bets 600, I make it 1,985, he calls.
Turn (6,358): 6♦️: I shove for his remaining 7,239, he folds.
