POTD #99 ITM of the $50k PPC: Can Erick Lindgren fold his Ace High Flush?
A potential hero fold in PLO
As is the policy of POTD, when I write about other people’s hands, I write about a hand I played that was similar. Normally this process goes one way; I see a hand that I think is interesting and dig through my archive (extremely disorganized Google Doc) of hands I played and try to find a match. For today’s hand, my hand pairing procedure was flipped. I played a hand in Sochi 2020 vs. Phil Ivey that currently has 1.6M views on YouTube, and at least one other video of the hand has 411k views. It is one of the most popular hands I’ve ever played, which is ironic because it’s a Short Deck hand, which is the least popular variant of poker I play.
I was waiting for a similar hand that I could pair with my Short Deck hand vs. Phil Ivey, and lo and behold, Joao “Naza114” Vieira and Erick Lindgren played a similar hand in the money of the $50k Poker Players Championship. Erick raised the river with the second nuts that must have felt like the nuts. Then he got shoved on and was in a tough spot. Could he find the hero fold? Read on to find out.
