Whether I was excited to be back in Jeju playing some Triton tournaments or just jet-lagged, I fell asleep around 1:30 local time and woke up around 5:30. Normally when I wake up well before I want to, I immediately take melatonin and try to go back to sleep. Unfortunately, it’s been so long since I travelled that my normal packing routine was rusty and I forgot to pack melatonin, as well as my flip-flops and a small satchel / crossbody bag / man-purse that I bring to the tournament area. (I hope tomorrow’s report doesn’t include more things I forgot to pack.) Either way, I got less sleep than I wanted. At least I woke up to see the Blue Jays had won.
I managed to briefly nap between 11:00 and 11:40 and was more or less prepared for the first event, a $15K NLH that started at 13:00 local time. I made sure to show up to the tournament room to say my hellos to all the staff, I had not seen in over a year and to make sure registration went cleanly. My day went the way many tournament days do: It started promising, I ran hot, made a lot of good hands and won some preflop all-ins, and I had turned my 200k starting stack into 750k at my peak. Then I made some second-best hands, lost some preflop all-ins, and ended up getting knocked out of the tournament before we reached the money. At least I’ll be able to get some sleep tonight (fingers crossed). (Update: I slept from around 1:00-5:00, hopefully I can nap before the tournament at 15:00)
Another positive is that I only fired one bullet, and in reviewing my play today, I felt I played rather well. No major mistakes, and most of the plays I questioned as I was playing turned out to be approved by the solver when I looked them up later. However, I did not travel all the way to Korea to not write about a poker hand because I played so well, so I have a hand to share with you (and #onemorehand to share with premium subscribers).
