POTD #253 Once Again I Try Bluffing with Nut Low
Today I can't even get queen high to fold.
Wrecked Week started off with me writing about two deep-stacked hands vs. tricky opponents, but today I am going to write about a hand that my opponent, Jason Koon, described as being “like a limit hold ‘em hand.” Playing deep-stacked NLH is very tricky, but when you make mistakes, they can be forgiven. If you make a 0.5bb mistake preflop, you have three more streets and hundreds of BBs to play with to win those 0.5bbs back. When you’re shallow stacked, if you make that sort of mistake, you might be one bet away from being all-in. It’s very hard to correct for that mistake without just getting lucky.
Today’s hand is a tricky unequal stack spot, between a deep stack playing a tight and strong linear range, and my short stack that is trying to fight and claw its way back into the tournament. This hand begins with me calling a quarter of my stack preflop with nut low and check-raising a quarter of my remaining stack with moderately improved nut low. With less than pot to play, I had limited options to recoup my losses, but I fought back and tried my best. Unfortunately, I ran into a player who was willing to fight back even with a rather weak holding himself.
