POTD #245 Final Table Friday: A PLO Bounty Hand from 2025
A hand from, believe it or not, my most recent live FT.
PLO, short-stacked final tables, and short-stacked bounty final tables are all very challenging technical games. They are not easily solved and require a lot of on-the-fly problem solving. The last live final table I made was a PLO Bounty Quattro in Jeju. I came into the final table with a big stack ready to collect some bounties, but ended up doing something much less exciting, but similarly lucrative: folding into second place before losing heads-up in one hand. The way the FT shook out, I didn’t get many opportunities to go bounty hunting, but I tried two or three times and did not get the board I wanted either for my hand or my opponent’s hand. That happens sometimes. In today’s hand, after seeing my two opponent’s eight cards, it was unlikely I was ever going to collect a bounty or double up on this board, but I could have at least played the hand in a way that would have made me more money in the long run, and I failed to do so.
Today’s hand is one I’m pairing with POTD #65, a hand that begins like my hand, with a limp on the button, and ends like my hand, with a turn check-raise all-in. The difference is that Dylan Linde had a hand strong enough to bet-call, and while he did not collect a bounty, he knocked out his opponent and collected a large pay jump. In today’s hand, I didn’t collect a bounty or a payjump. I’d need to wait for Lautaro Guerra to do the dirty work for me, but had I played the hand a little better, I could have saved myself some chips.
