In POTD #1 I wrote about raising the button, the flop having two broadways on it, and barreling off A2 high versus the BB. When I wrote about that hand, I was not sure what a “normal” POTD post would look like. One of my goals in POTD (and in life) is concise communication. POTD #1 clocked in at a modest 909 words, and that’s counting two “Punt of the Day is a reader-supported publication. My introduction to POTD #1 was a modest 95 words. I’ve written about poker gravity, the idea that certain people naturally gravitate to certain types of plays; certain players would be more likely to find rare check-raises than tight folds, and other players, vice versa. Whether it’s the written or spoken word, my natural gravity leads to going long. I felt that yesterday’s POTD, which didn’t even see a river, was short compared to recent POTDs, and it clocked in at 1200 words. I have a lot to say and I don’t like editing out entire thoughts of mine [I also do not remove any of Sam’s ideas in the process —ed.]— I purposefully created a Discord Channel for premium subscribers, called #onemorething, to allow me to post extra thoughts. My verbosity has led to the average POTD post ballooning in size; I hope most of you like the longer posts as I get to post more information and provide more analysis, but my goal for an ideal POTD post is still clarity and precision. So in the new year, I will try to make an effort to curb the word count inflation; however, that might be harder than asking Allen Kessler to start bluffing more rivers. It’s fitting, then, that I can continue two-barrel week by writing about a hand that shares some similarities to POTD #1. Then, I wrote 900 words about raising the button and barreling off A2; today, you’ll get to read about me raising the button and barreling off A3. Can I keep the word count under four digits? Read on to find out.
