POTD #159 Halloween Week 4: From Bad to Worse.

My first foray into blogging was a blogspot website where I reviewed movies, so I’d feel remiss to have a Halloween week without writing about horror movies. For many horror movies are a non-starter because they don’t like things that are gory or because they don’t like being scared. I have an odd relationship with horror movies in that I rarely watch them, but I love movies that are gory or scary or otherwise get my pulse pounding, but I generally seek out non-horror movies with those elements. This is not because I look down at horror as a genre, but more of a practical triage, I only have so much time to watch movies, while traveling the world playing poker and having a family. I don’t like watching horror movies on my laptop in a hotel room or on a plane, which means in my media diet horror movies have gotten the axe.

I think there is a correlation between liking horror movies (and if you want to pick another topic I’ve been bringing up constantly on this blog, baseball) and enjoying the masochistic elements of playing poker. Do you enjoy the feeling of sitting in a chair, feeling like you’re in a vice grip as your blood pressure rises so much so that you would call it “entertaining”. Well horror movies, the ninth¹ inning of a playoff baseball game and no limit Texas Hold Em might be for you. Like horror movies, sometimes the hero fights to live another day and sometimes they get massacred by a chainsaw. Today’s tournament hand takes place on my third of fourth lives and is the third hand in a row where I flopped a set. What could possibly go wrong?
