POTD #138 Winning(?) Wednesday: Punt of My Return to Online Poker
A tricky three way pot in the GGMillion$
I am an optimist at heart, so when I was mapping out the schedule for Week #28 (my god, what did I sign myself up for) of POTD, I decided to save a hand from my return to online poker for Winning Wednesday, in the hopes that positive thinking would create some good luck for my return. For a moment, it appeared as though I did generate the fortune I had hoped for, as I got up over 6 starting stacks in Day 1C of the $10k GGMillion$, then I played a large pot vs. POTD regular Mike Watson. Historically when I’ve punted to Mike I’ve won, but today’s hand followed more normal cause and effect: The guy who punted lost the pot to the guy who didn’t. After hero calling and losing, my chips continued to dwindle down until I busted just after registration closed— Mike took my gift and secured a min-cash.
As part of a series for Run It Once (Sign up using code: POTD for 10% off), I will be exhaustively going through every hand I played in Tuesday’s session in an attempt to find my biggest punt, and I will also be writing about more of those hands here. But for today’s Winning Losing Wednesday, I needed a quick turnaround, so I wrote about the largest pot I played. As I write this, I am running unequal-stack three-way postflop hands; my laptop is getting paid overtime for all the sims it is running, and I am searching under every rock to find every possible mistake I made in that session before crowning a Punt of Tuesday September 23rd. For today’s blog, we do have a tricky three-way pot where I had a pure bluff catcher with some key blockers on the river that was, at first blush, a close spot. I am not sure it was a punt, but it was certainly the most consequential hand I played on that day, and the one I was most curious to solve and do a deep dive into.
