Last week, we officially launched Winning Wednesday with a hand I played vs. GTOLab Pro Daniel Dvoress (Get $25 off any GTO Lab product use code: POTD. It can be used multiple times.) in level 3 of a single-day 25k in Prague; twenty-something levels later, I would leave the tournament room with a trophy, but not before I busted my first bullet in part because I punted to Mr. Dvoress. A reader sent in a letter to POTD, which I’ve shared with their permission below.

Dear POTD,

The premise of “Winning Wednesdays” is that you write about a hand from the early levels of a tournament that you won. In POTD #128, the hand you wrote about was from a tournament you busted during the early levels of, not a tournament you won. The second bullet is a totally different tournament and this should not count for “Winning Wednesdays.”

With Regards,

Sam G.

Thank you for the e-mail Sam G. I think you raise an interesting point, but in POTD I am trying to write about the experience of playing high-stakes tournaments, and when you play the same tournament in the same room vs. the same opponents, hands played on different bullets often feel like they are in the same tournament. Sometimes you are even able to regain the chips you punted off from the person who received your punt. It is the opinion of POTD that if you can avenge your loss by regaining the chips from the person who took them from you in the first place, it is still “the same tournament,” and the bullet-one punt was just part of the journey to an inevitable victory.
