The first live tournament I ever played was the 2007 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. If I could remember any hands I played in that tournament, I’d have enough content to fill this blog for years, but the only hand I remember from that trip is this bluff from Isaac Haxton.
I have had a lot of success at the PCA. I played and cashed my first Super High Roller there and I’ve won the Super High Roller twice— including in 2019, the tournament where today’s hand takes place. With the help of The Hendon Mob, I’ve calculated that I have spent 140 days at the Atlantis and another 32 at Baha Mar. Ike and I have joked about whether or not we’ve spent more than 1% of our lives at the Atlantis: Well, I’ve done the math, and as of the date of publication, I’ve been alive 13,324 days. Therefore, I can say that I’ve spent 1% of my life there. Have I had a lot of success there because it’s a short flight in the time zone I live in? Do I feel comfortable playing poker in a room I’ve spent so much time in, or have I gotten very lucky? Probably a combination of all three, but for today’s hand the answer is clear: I got lucky.
